All good things must come to an end

As the last week of the shack comes to an close, it brings with it an end of frosty, fruity, sweet treats. We will miss seeing all of your beautiful faces. We will miss enjoying delicious sno cones with you. We will miss the friends we have made. We will miss seeing your kids with a sticky mess covering their hands, face, and sometimes shirt. Thank you for a great summer. Thank you for coming to Surf N Slurp instead of the other sno shacks that dot the valley. To show even a fraction of the appreciation we have for you, we will be doing double punches on your Surf N Slurp cards for the next two days. We would love to see you. We would love to fill your card with punches to use this week, or next summer.

The shack will be open Friday from 2:30-10:00 and Saturday from 11:00-10:00. We would love to see you.

From all of us at the shack, thanks for being awesome. You guys rock.

Hey Howdy Hey! (and free cream)

Hello Surf N Slurp enthusiasts. I hope you are holding onto the last threads of summer as fiercely as I am. The 95 degree weather sure helps the feel of summer. Well its now officially September, school has been in session for a week or two, and it is exhausting. I can't wait for this weekend. Why you might ask? Because its a 3 DAY WEEKEND!!! Bring on the B-B-Q's, the Frisbee, the park, and the family get-togethers. Add in college football, and its looking like the best weekend since, well, since summer. In honor of Labor Day, we are going to be open for our normal summer hours, 11am-10pm. So come on by all day, celebrate your day free of labor, or come after work if you are an unfortunate soul having to work Monday. Oh, and free cream for all on Monday. Its a holiday, and our last week open!
Labor Day Parade, Union Square New York 1882

Ps. Surf N Slurp will be closing September 10th, so get a sno cone while you can! Plus, next week, excluding Monday, Double Punches every day!

A Hearty Thanks

We at Surf N Slurp wanted to say a big thanks to C. Jane, she wrote a wonderful post about our delicious sno cones, counting them in her top 10 things to do in Provo during education week, see the post here. But we didn't tell you to go to her blog, but you should. And read it. And look at the events she's involved it. She seems really cool. We would be her when we grow up if we could.

After School Snacks

So this coming week brings many things, most notably the start of the new school year. It is always a hard transition from the freedom of summer to the toils of school. We at Surf N Slurp are here to make it easier for you. The best part of every school day is getting home and eating an after school snack. Now, get your snack on your way home, make it a sno cone! Since most our employees are all students, we will also be having new hours starting Monday. The shack will now be open from 2pm to 10pm. Come on by, help ease the transition to school and enjoy a tasty treat!

Slip Sliding Away

The summer seems to be slipping away from me day by day. People are getting in their last minute family vacations, running around and trying to fit in all the last things before school starts. For those frantic to hold on to their summer, I have good news for you. Sno Cones. Sno cones are hands down one of the summeriest things you can eat. And Surf N Slurp will be open through the end of August, so we are here for you in your last month of summer bliss. Come on by and get a frosty treat. We'd love to see you.

Pioneer Day

With the 24th of July rapidly approaching, I thought I'd enlighten everyone a bit as to why, in Utah, we celebrate the 24th of July with perhaps more spirit and vigor than the 4th of July. Not being a Utah native myself, I had no idea that the 24th was a holiday until I happened to be attending soccer camp over the weekend of the 24th. I was sitting in my friend's grandma's kitchen eating strange fluorescent pink bacon watching a parade on TV and I had no idea what it was for. I soon was informed it was for pioneer day. Now, a little of the history of pioneer day...

Pioneer Day is an official holiday that commemorates the entry of Brigham Young and the first group of Mormon pioneers into the Salt Lake Valley on July 24, 1847. These pioneers had traveled across the plains from various locations in the eastern United States, some of them being forced from the towns they were living in. Some of the pioneers had come from Europe, arriving on the east coast only to pack up a handcart and travel to Utah. The journey was not easy, and many many people died along the way. Some of the handcart companies experienced terrible weather and hardships, and families sacrificed everything to make the journey to Salt Lake. The first celebration of Pioneer Day was on July 24, 1849 to celebrate the second anniversary of entering the Salt Lake valley. The celebration was cut short with news of the approaching Johnson's army, bringing with it the start of the Utah war. In 1862 the occupation of Utah by federal troops was ended and Pioneer Day once again was celebrated.

We hope you have a wonderful 24th of July weekend, celebrate the history of Utah, and celebrate it with a sno cone! Also, the Utah Department of Public Safety statistics show that the 24th of July is the second most dangerous day for traffic incidents, so please drive safe.

The Boy Who Lived

Its here! Harry Potter officially comes out tonight at midnight! I hope you are all as excited as I am. To show our love for Harry and his friends, and your devotion to the Harry Potter series, we are celebrating at the shack. Today only, you can get a free sno cone size upgrade if you order butterbeer, or if you come in Harry Potter costumes. You don't have to come dressed as Harry, you just need to be in costume as one of the characters. This means that for the price of a kiddie, you can get an extra small. For the price of a small, you can get a small/medium. You get the idea. Stop on by on your way to wait in line at the movie, or just stop by to celebrate this historic day with us.

Free Cream For the 4th of July

Well, it looks like this 4th of July is living up to all the expectations. Stadium of Fire was amazing, the hot air balloons were fantastic, the parade highly entertaining, and the legalization of aerial fireworks made for a wonderful fireworks show from my living room all last night, and tonight will be sure to not disappoint. To celebrate today, we are treating you all to free cream on your sno cones. Just make sure to order any patriotic color combination and bam, free cream! If you need some inspiration, see our post from last week here. Consider the free cream our birthday gift to the good ole' US of A. Some come celebrate the birth of our wonderful nation today with us, we are open from 11am-10pm. Be safe, have fun, and remember, only you can prevent forest fires (or so the smoky the bear balloon this morning informed us). Yes, this is from the parade this morning. Storm Troopers for freedom.

Patriotic Festivities

This approaching weekend is one of my favorite times to be in Provo. There are so many things to do in celebration of the 4th of July. You can go to the balloon festival, stadium of fire, or just wander on down to center street for the freedom festival (check out their website full of a schedule of awesome events). Here at the Surf N Slurp we wanted to participate in the festivities. So, on the 4th of July, you can get FREE CREAM for ordering any patriotic combination. That means that anything that is red, white, and blue gets you free cream. Need some ideas?(disclaimer: I have not tried all of these combinations, but be adventurous...)
  • cinnamon, pina colada, and blue cotton candy
  • strawberry, coconut, and blue bubble gum
  • pomegranate, french vanilla, and cougars blood
If none of those sound good to you, just go on in and pick your combination! If you really have no idea, you can always get the American Dream with Cream (to find out whats in that, go to our secret menu)

Summer Solstice

It looks like summer was just waiting to heat up for the summer solstice, also knows as the first day of summer which was June 21st. This week looks like its going to be a hot one, and we are so excited. The crowds have been gathering and its been a party at the shack. Its a great time to come down and see one of your friends, or meet a new one!
Also, we have a new employee joining us this week, so come on down and meet him!

The Coveted Ones

While I can very safely say that every flavor available at Surf N Slurp is delicious, there are a certain flavors that have reached a coveted status, they carry their own cult following. Most of these flavors are from our SECRET MENU. According to a very reliable source, the most popular flavors are:

American Dream with Cream: This delicious mixture contains blue raspberry, tigers blood, and piña colada. Top it with delicious cream and you have a creamy concoction sure to please any palate. Its also patriotic, great to order since we just had flag day and the 4th of July is only a few weeks away.

Surfer Sunset: This frosty treat entails equal parts of pineapple, pomegranate, & mango. Its a very fruity and summery sno cone. I recommend getting it surfer style, which means it has ice cream on the bottom, and is topped with cream. Nothing says summer like Surfer Sunset Surfer Style (plus, who doesn't love the alliteration).

Butterbeer: Once again, Harry captivates us all with his magic. This
magical mixture is wedding cake and cream soda. Get it topped with cream and you can aparate away to the three broomsticks and enjoy with your pals. (FYI, countdown is now 29 days away. Get excited)

Come on down to the shack and try one of these favorites, make up your own, or pick one from our secret menu.

Shirtastic

Last weekend at the shack the employees decided that during their weekly meeting they would make awesome spray painted shirts. The creativity of the employees is astounding! Every shirt looked awesome and totally different. Gracie made stencils of a wave and the words 'surf n slurp' to spray on, Amber provided the spray paint and the artistic inspiration began. The shirts turned out great. If you come by the shack and see one of the employees wearing their shirt, be sure to compliment them on their awesomeness.

H-H-H Happy Birthday!

Today is the birthday of our longest employee, Jessica (she's the one on the left). We are so lucky to have her working in the shack making delicious sno cones for all of you and even luckier to have her as a friend. She is such a dedicated employee, she even scheduled herself tonight, on her 18th birthday, so come by the shack and wish her a happy birthday and if you don't know what to order, her favorite is red raspberry with cream.

Rain Rain Go Away

Since the rain rain won't go away, come to Surf N Slurp another day. We are unfortunately going to be closing the shack today due to the damp and depressing forecast. We will open the shack back up tomorrow (Friday) so be sure to swing by tomorrow instead of today. Sorry for the inconvenience this may provide to those of you already addicted to sno cones, we just ask that you blame it on mother nature instead of us.

Just a rainy day in May

The most disappointing thing about spring is that is will be absolutely gorgeous outside one day, and rainy and grey the next. Its hard to get in the swing of summer when you can't decide whether to pack away your winter clothes or not. Well, at Surf N Slurp we have come up with a solution. Nothing feels more like summer than a sno cone, so come on down to the sno shack, rain or not, and get a tasty treat. You won't regret it, and who knows, maybe if enough people do it, it will be like the anti-rain dance. We'll call it the sno cone dance of sunshine or something clever and catchy. So come on down and dance in the rain with us.

Scared Potter?

Picking your favorite flavor is much like picking your favorite child, everyone has one but they are reluctant to admit it. So today I am spotlighting a new favorite flavor.  A good friend recently went to Harry Potter Land (so jealous!) and was privelaged to sample some butterbeer.  For most of us we can only read the books and try to imagine what it tastes like, but he actually was able to taste it! In honor of that, we are now offering butterbeer as a secret flavor, it is really wedding cake and cream soda mixed. It tastes even better with cream on top, making it truly a creamy delicious treat. So come on by the shack and get a heaping cup of ice cold butterbeer, close your eyes, and imagine yourself in Hogsmead or riding a broom stick or at Hogwarts. Whichever Harry Potter fantasy you want to imagine, its up to you. And its great to get your psyched up for the last half of the movie coming out July 15th (only 66 days away). So come try our new tribute to the boy who lived!

P.s. you can also go to the Warner Brothers site to see trailers, etc. Click here to go there.

FREE CREAM FOR ALL ON CINCO DE MUSTACHE! (but only if you sport the mustache)

I certainly hope you are checking back to see what good fortune Cinco de Mayo is going to bring your way.  Well, sport a mustache in any form at the shack today and we'll top your sno cone with cream for free.

(Even Michael Scott knows the rules, he's probably on his way to the shack for a sno cone with free cream)

Last season an adorable family came in with what seemed like a dozen kids (it was probably only 5 or 6) and they all had different mustaches; some were taped on, some drawn on, one girl even had a mustache pillow she held in front of her face!  But the very best was the youngest boy; his mom or sisters had drawn a mustache on his finger and taught him how to hold it up to his lip on cue.  It was one of the greatest moments at the shack last year!

So everyone feel free to come on by with a 'stache and we'll be sure to get you that sweet sweet cream!

Tomorrow we will be celebrating this awesome holiday at the shack. Check back here tomorrow or on our twitter or facebook to find out what great deal you will get for arriving with a mustache. We can't wait to see you in full mustache glory!
Pick your favorite mustache!

First Day Bliss

Despite the snow, we were very excited for our first day yesterday.  We were worried that the cold weather might deter even our biggest fans, but by 11:10 we had our first customers of the season, four brave bundled up kids that were so excited to get their sno cones.  The day progressed and we were really happy to see friends, family, and people who will soon be our friends stop by.  The weather is going to be much warmer next week, so come see us! We'll be open from 2:15-10 pm all week, then 11-10 next Saturday. Also, if you haven't become a follower of our blog, do so. Also follow us on twitter here and like us on facebook here.

Two Days

Rumor has it, and the rumor is true, the shack will be opening in 2 days. Boys, today is a great day to call up that pretty girl you have class with and ask her if she would like to accompany you to go get a delicious sno cone on Saturday night. Girls, you can ask that cute boy you've been flirting with for weeks if he wants to casually run by and grab a sno cone with you Saturday afternoon. Call up your old mission companions, invite your neighbor, bring your spouse, walk over with the kids you babysit, just find a way to come to the shack. I promise it will be well worth your while, and we want to see you there!

Snowy Tuesday

As I watched the snow hurtle past my classroom window this morning, the only thing I could think was "Man, i sure want a sno cone!" I am sure that is what everyone else was thinking too, or if you weren't, you are now. We only have 4 days left till the shack opens. We are so excited for the summer and can't wait to see all of you for another wonderful sno cone season!

Ps. To honor a great athlete playing with the number 4, you might automatically think of:
Brett Favre
While I don't like him at all, I know I am among the minority of the population. He was a great quarterback. But at the end of the day, no matter how many touchdowns he threw or how great he looks in wranglers, his last name is spelled wrong. F-A-V-R-E? Try again sir.

I would choose Lou Gehrig, the "Iron Horse" and baseball legend. Don't know much about him? Click here and educate yourself on this amazing athlete.

Happy Easter!

We hope that your Easter has been fantastic and that you were able to spend it with someone you care about, even if that person is Cadbury Mini Eggs.  All we ask is that you finish your Easter candy by Saturday so there is nothing to hold you back from coming and getting a sno cone in 6 days.

Ps. Yes, we did dye those eggs, and yes, the exclamation point is tye-dye. Be jealous.

Surf lessons

With only a week left until the shack opens, things are kicking into high gear to make sure everything is prepared for the summer.  Any free time is spent painting, cleaning and organizing.  With the rain today, we decided to take a quick break to hone our surfing skills. What do you think? I think for two people who grew up in landlocked states, we don't look too shabby...

Remember, we open in one week, a mere 7 days! April 30th! Get excited.

Barely more than a week...

8 days is all that remain until you can partake of some sweet sno cone goodness. Its hardly more than a week, so start planning you day to make a stop at Surf N Slurp. Fit it in between errands, yard work, spring cleaning, Saturday chores, or as a lovely date night activity, I am sure you won't be disappointed.

Ps. Congrats to all those graduating today. It is a wonderful accomplishment and you should be very proud of yourself. So proud in fact, plan to stop by the shack and treat yourself to a sno cone in 8 days. You earned it.
